Selling Prints: Observations and Advice
Art in the Professions Week
Introduction
A lot of people think this is how print sales happen:
1. Join DeviantArt
2. Upload your first piece to DA with prints enabled
3. Log out
4. Come back an hour later
5. ????
6. PROFIT
But, sadly, it's not that easy - like most social media platforms, DA is a site where you tend to get back a return (in this case, CASH MONEY!) proportionate to effort you put into getting your content seen. In this article I'll be focusing on marketing your prints, which is easier than you'd expect but requires you to think about four major questions: What are you going to sell? Who are you selling it to? Where will you

Using the Forums to your Benefit
Chat and Forums WeekThe DeviantArt forum (https://www.deviantart.com/forum) houses several forums where deviants can create threads for discussion. In this article, I will be showing you some ways that you can utilize the forum (https://www.deviantart.com/forum) to your benefit. Essentially, you will learn how to make the DeviantArt forum (https://www.deviantart.com/forum) work for you in ways you may not have previously known were possible.
The BasicsBefore you can use the forum (https://www.deviantart.com/forum) to your benefit you must first learn the basics of the forums, which comes down to the guidelines and FAQs. A Brief Guide to Illustration
Art in the Professions
So, what is Illustration & what do Illustrators do?
Illustration is: commercial art! That means an illustrator is an artist who does work for money. They take on commissions and follow briefs set out by their clients to create a piece of work with a purpose.
Illustration is: storytelling! Book covers, movie posters, CD/DVD cover art, graphic novels, children & picture book illustrations, magazine & newspaper editorials, concept art, character design & storyboarding all fall into the category of illustration. Illustrative art is art with a narrative element, so a piece can either be one stand alone imag

I'm not a lawyer. This isn't legal advice. My professional insurance does not cover this article. Also:
"The article does not constitute an attorney-client relationship, attorney-client privilege, or legal or practical advice of any sort. [Dongs.]" - haldron (https://www.deviantart.com/haldron)
If you're looking at a contract that's terrifying you or involves a ludicrous amount of money or whatever, please consult a local lawyer in your jurisdiction who can help you more directly. This is an article intended to gloss over standard creative contracts from the perspective of a contractor/employee and an employer, and to try and make you real

deviantART's 11th BirthdAy: Let's Celebrate!

August 7th, 2011 marks deviantART's 11th birthdAy, but in true devious style, we're taking a whole week to celebrate! Our original plans for Deviants Appreciation Day were so huge that there was no possible way to express our love for the community in a mere 24 hours. Instead, we've created Deviants Appreciation Week, and what better time to host a week's worth of community-oriented events than in the days leading up to our birthdAy?
Each day this week, we have something special organized for you to participate in! Check out the schedule of events below to come party with us!
In Skribble, our latest community contest, we challenge

Keeping deviantART safe
DeviantART strives to provide all our members with a safe and fun environment to grow and create. This includes setting guidelines and having standards for the kinds of banner ads displayed on the site. We do not allow ads that auto-play audio, contain pop-ups or redirects, and certainly do not allow nefarious ads that promote virus or malware activity.
We hate bad ads as much you do and take the matter very seriously. We assure you that deviantART is actively tracking down ad networks that are responsible for bad ads and are terminating those relationships.
Saturday kicked off Day 3 of Comic-Con, and the crowds poured onto the convention floor to start the weekend in Geek Style.
At noon, deviantART hosted our final panel: How to Supercharge Your deviantART Profile Like the Masters. Moderated by none other than our fearless ninja, Angelo (aka spyed (https://www.deviantart.com/spyed)), we were honored to have the following superstars share their deviantART experiences with the crowd:
- Adam Warren (AdamWarren (https://www.deviantart.com/adamwarren) -- “The Dirty Pair,” “Empowered”)
- Mark Brooks (diablo2003 (https://www.deviantart.com/diablo2003), from Marvel Comics)
- Jim Zubkavich (Zubby (https://www.deviantart.com/zubby) -- Project Manager of Creative Services, Udon Entertainment)
- Dave Ell
On Sunday, the 4th and final day of San Diego Comic-Con, we were able to keep the love flowing to show the artists and art enthusiasts who came by our booth just how much they meant to us.
The last day of Comic-Con is always bittersweet. The air buzzes with positivity, inspiration, and camaraderie, but in the back of your mind, you know it may be another year before you see some of these friends, old and new. Sure, we always have the Internet, but there's something special about meeting in real life that can’t compare to flipping through a portfolio of sketches, laughing out loud with your peers, and supporting artists’ hard wo

DeviantArt.com will celebrate its 15th birthday in August 2015. While many online communities have come and gone during the last decade and a half, DeviantArt remains because of our passionate and committed community. In that time, we've celebrated many milestones, and it became apparent we were in need of a place to share our victories and our challenges. And since we want to move toward more complete transparency with the community, what better time to also showcase

Entrepreneur magazine features deviantART as its cover story
Have You Heard The News?
The admins here at deviantART HQ have done nothing but (faint) for the past couple days. You see, deviantART recently made the cover of "Entrepreneur" magazine. A journalist named Jennifer Wang and a flock of photographers flooded our offices, giggled at our emote stress balls and silly stuffed animals, and were generally taken aback that beyond our walls lay millions of deviants all over the world submitting, supporting, lol-ing, thriving, all in the name of art and c
